The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has lifted the lid on his the
lengths Liverpool's new boss will go to to ensure his players are
motivated
Kevin Grosskreutz says Jurgen Klopp will not be afraid to give his Liverpool players a slap — if that’s what it takes to get the best out of them.
The German midfielder spent six years working under the 48-year-old at Borussia Dortmund, but both men left the club last summer.
In a column written for the Daily Mail, the now Galatasaray man has explained Klopp’s pre-match ritual with his players.
“He is equally animated in the dressing room,” Grosskreutz wrote. “He is colourful, angry, emotional but he definitely has a plan. He has a clear strategy, he combines brains and guts.
“Before every game, he made sure the atmosphere inside the dressing room was always highly charged.
“He would speak to each player individually, pumping them up, telling them what he wanted and then he would address us all as a group.”
And the 27-year-old added that there were no boundaries to what Klopp would do to make sure his players where motivated.
He continued: “Lots of things went on with varying degrees of roughness; you could compare it maybe to what you see in American football or the rugby World Cup, he'd bang heads with players, slap them.
“It was not in an overly aggressive way, but in a way buddies would motivate each other. He wanted to get inside our heads so that he knew we were going out to win.”
